Escarpment Publishing is AIA Publishing’s Australian self-publishing service imprint. This assisted self-publishing service is for authors who want to self publish and want to do it well, but don’t want to spend the time and money required to learn the necessary skills. And if you want to publish the kind of book that AIA Publishing doesn’t publish, like a picture book, a personal memoir (as distinct from one for a general readership), family histories, poetry, foreign-language books, or non-fiction aimed at and appealing to a general readership, we can do that for you under our Escarpment Publishing imprint, and you can be sure that you’ll get personal care from a team with high standards of integrity.
Though Escarpment Publishing is an Australian self-publishing service, we publish books for authors all around the world. However, we particularly welcome submissions from authors residing in the Illawarra, Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands areas of NSW, Australia. (The name comes from the Illawarra escarpment – the photo of it above is taken from the Newland property.)
Books will be required to meet basic standards of proficiency and must have socially responsible content. We will advise on what editing is needed, and the book must be, at the very least, professionally copy edited and proofread before we will agree to publish it.
What does a self-publishing service do?
Using a self-publishing service rather than being the self-publisher yourself is like the difference between being an owner builder and employing a building company to build your house – your book being the house. If you are an owner builder (self-publisher), you arrange subcontractors to do the building work (cover, editing, formatting) for you, but you work out the costs, order the materials, communicate with and schedule the subcontractors, and fill in all the forms and pay the costs for building approvals (setting up the title with the ISBN provider & printer). If you employ a builder to build your house (employ a self-publishing service), they do all that for you, but you’ll still decide what colour paint you want on your walls (cover art) and how you want your kitchen to look (interior book design).
What does it cost?
Assisted self-publishing with our Escarpment Publishing imprint costs the same as publishing under the AIA Publishing name. Prices are on the Submissions page here. The only difference is that we don’t do any marketing for Escarpment Publishing books, and they are listed on the Escarpment Publishing website rather than here.
If us doing it for you is out of your budget, then read this excellent guide to doing it all yourself and use our editing team and book designer to make sure you end up with a professional product.
