Tahlia and Brent, thank you. There is an authenticity about the both of you that is motivating. Please know that you are doing a great job in helping writers. There is empathy behind your service. Compassion, honour, and heart are hard to find in the publishing world these days.
Tai Barnett, author.
The editing team at AIA Publishing & Editing is managed by Tahlia Newland from Tahlia Newland Editing. We only select books for publication that meet high editorial standards, and for the vast majority authors that means some more editing is required before their book is ready for publication.
Tahlia and her talented and committed editors care about you and your book. They will work collaboratively with you to ensure your work retains your individual voice, is as good as you can make it, and says what you want to say in the best possible way.
I really love what you’ve done with the book. You’ve managed to make my points come across much clearer, with better readability without altering my writing style. I didn’t notice just how much grammatical, punctuation and capitalization errors there were until you corrected all of them. Thank you again for that!
Tiffany Riyadi, author of Whim of Steel.
The editing process
Our books go through a comprehensive editing process. We start with a manuscript appraisal that identifies any weaknesses in your book. For fiction, we look at plot, pacing, character development, dialogue and worldbuilding. Then you use that information to go through the book again and improve on it. After that you give the book back to us for a free sample edit and quote. If you accept the quote, we’ll schedule your book in for line and copy editing, and when that’s completed, we’ll arrange a proofread.
The only word to describe your editing is “superlative.” You’ve improved the text in ways that make my story more professionally written and enjoyable to read. I’ve learned a lot more this time around: avoiding redundancy, limiting foreshadowing, showing more and telling less, not overdoing one sentence paragraphs. You really are at the top of your game.
Richard Zappa, author.
Advice
Editing is the most important part of writing a book, and publishing an inadequately edited book is a crime against the reading community. Yes, that’s how strongly our editorial team feel about the importance of their work. Most authors know they will need their book edited, but don’t be tempted to take up a cheap option; when it comes to quality, cheapest is rarely the best. We recommend that particularly for your first book, you invest in editors who will not only edit your work but also teach you to be a better author. We find that our authors’ editing costs decrease with subsequent books because they learn from our editors.
A full edit is vital, especially for new authors, and it comprises a developmental edit (manuscript appraisal), line edit, copy edit and proofread. Don’t be tempted to miss out the line edit – your prose may be substandard without it. Remember that we don’t know what we don’t know, so it’s best to employ a profressional who can point out what we need to know.
There are a lot of editors around, but not all can provide your book with the level of editing it needs. Not only is every member of our team a dedicated professional but also we select the member of our team who, from their experience and expertise, is best suited to work on your particular book.
Your appraisal is FANTASTIC! Thank you so much for all your solid feedback and kind, but straightforward, way of presenting it. I really appreciate having some solid thoughts on what to do next.
Jennifer Hanson.
